Befriending Service

Towards the end of 2018, the Junction and Alkrington surgery, with the support of the Patient Participation Group, set up a befriending service for our patients.

Our befriending service offers one-to-one support to adults who are lonely or isolated and need a friendly face. As a practice, we aim to provide care for our patients as a whole person. That means going beyond just the medical needs of our patients. Patients can refer themselves to our befriending service or can be referred by their GP, a relative or an outside agency.

At this challenging time when it is difficult to see loved ones and many people are isolated within their homes, we still strive to provide the best care we can to individuals. Prior to the Coronavirus outbreak, our volunteers would visit patients in their home. Whilst we continue to live and deal with Coronavirus, our volunteer’s ring our patients for a friendly chat to brighten their day.

Our service depends on volunteers and we are always looking for more people to work with us. We offer full training and support to all our volunteers. Please give us a call and find out how you can help.
