What is a contraceptive implant?
The contraceptive implant (sometimes called a subdermal implant) is a small, flexible rod placed under the skin of the upper arm by a trained healthcare professional. It:
- Provides highly effective contraception
- Works for up to 5 years
- Can be removed at any time
- Does not interrupt sex
- Is suitable for many women
Is it right for me?
The contraceptive implant may be suitable if you are looking for a long-acting and reliable form of contraception. However, it is not suitable for everyone, so you should discuss your individual circumstances with a clinician.
